Part of this month's shop update is a very special, very new collection. I'm calling it the Big Beauty Collection because each piece is a big, beautiful, complicated piece of jewelry. There will be four Big Beauties: two rings, a cuff, and a necklace. Here's a sneak peek of one ring and the cuff. These items, along with many more, will be in the online shop at 6pm PST sharp, on Thursday, Aug 29th.

The process of making these has been, for lack of a better description, really cool. I don't know that I've ever felt such steady inspiration over the course of so many, such complex and such layered designs. Each piece was my sole focus from start to finish. Very little jumping around from project to project. These Big Beauties unfold as they emerge. I don't plan them in advance. I create the shapes, the petals, the curves and lines mostly free-form. Various flowers have been my muse for this collection. The petals and blooms of Arizona plants are precious. I am always moved by what blossoms here in the desert.

Six layers deep in places, and still lightweight and comfortable. This cuff was a limit-pushing project. I am so pleased with how it came out. It truly pushed my technical silversmithing skills and on-the-bench problem-solving. The amount of pieces, the construction of layer upon layer and the utterly stunning Cheyenne Turquoise stone contribute to one hell of a powerful cuff.
