Color that MOVES you

Have you ever encountered colors that move you? Colors that inspire something deeply soulful and intangible. Colors that catch you off guard because you thought you knew what blue looked like, yet here it is in a whole new light? I have felt this multiple times over the summer. Daily I am blessed to work with stones, made magnificently by Earth, that come in all hues and shades. I see colors all the time, as do you, all around. But on certain special occasions I have been stopped in my tracks, completely enthralled, by specific colors that I think about long after the encounter.

.

I will share one example. This isn't anything romantic. It was, no joke, someone's nail polish color: periwinkle as I have never seen it before. Crisp, glowing, cool and calm. I wanted to dive in and feel that color and be close to that color. So, naturally I went on the internet and tried to find out what it was so I too could have periwinkle finger nails. In the search it dawned on me that the Golden Hills Lavender turquoise I work with is full of pockets and pools of this same alluring periwinkle. Hello! Sometimes when there are many colors together, or variations of the same color, teasing out a single shade is hard for the eye to do. The wow effect of the shade that might move you is diffused and never noticed at all. That's how it was with the Lavender turquoise, until now. In a twist on the common phrase, I simply hadn't seen the tree for the forest.

.

I am not a "blue person". In fact I actively look past blue and seek warmer colors as a personal rule (yes, it's silly, and probably says something about me according to Chinese Medicine). So to find myself in love with periwinkle was a surprise. I've accepted it now (perhaps it's a phase?) and right away picked a few Lavender turquoise stones to make these earrings and this ring below. I have a few more morsels of this beautiful material just waiting to be honored with a place in a jewelry design. Stay tuned for more periwinkle pieces, and stay tuned into the colors that move you.
