I took a jewelry class in Scottsdale last week. It's been over two years since I was in a classroom setting. While you can YouTube anything, by now I know my learning style thrives on in-person lessons. I was lucky to snag the last seat in a 2-day course with the badass metalsmith and teacher Jessica Jordan Cote, the woman behind Rosy Revolver. I can't count the number of times my jaw has dropped when I've come across images of her jewelry. There are maybe only two or three other metalsmiths I've encountered whose designs truly floor me the way her designs do. Please appreciate the ring she made below, which I was actually able to see in person.

Layers are the key to the depth of her work. So many layers. Our class was all about layering forms, building texture, shaping depth, and exposing what's beneath. It was inspiring, educational and exciting. My creative brain was stretched in all the best ways. Here is what I made, petals, squiggles, dots and all:

This ring is a keeper (she's mine), but I am currently working on another ring in this vein, to share with you all. I am grateful for the bundle of little tricks I learned to further hone my design, sawing and soldering skills. Nothing can substitute being able to ask questions in the moment and discuss with fellow classmates. I'm a little on cloud nine still, it was that fun.
