The golden ring.
.
I’ve never made anything quite like this before. Solid 18 karat gold. The weight and thickness of it is amazing. The ring came to be when, on a whim, I followed through with an idea that’s been hanging out in my head. In a special metalsmithing flow moment (fellow smiths, you know what I’m talking about!) it came out beautifully on the first try.

I melted down an old gold signet ring and poured it into a sand casting mold. You’ll see there’s a little area that’s narrower than the rest because there was *just* enough metal to complete the ring, but not fill in the entire mold. I kind of prefer it this way with all the imperfections and texture. This one is not for sale, I’m keeping her, but I have enough gold for one more...That one will be in the shop soon. Feel free to email me if you'd like this ring in your size.
