circle of unity necklace with pink maasai trade beads
Measurements: Pendant has a diameter of approximately 1 1/4". The chain is 26" long, but can be clasped shorter.
Constructed piece by piece, a silver frame holds two circles of antique African trade beads. The circle is a shape I don't work with much, but it has a powerful and peaceful feeling. The dusty pink color is so lovely. These beads most likely were made in Europe over 100 years ago, then traded to the Maasai people in Kenya where they were prized as currency and used in traditional dress. I purchased them from a bead seller at the Tucson Gem show. It would be fascinating if we could know the whole journey of these beads. Necklace is made of recycled silver (except the chain) and trade beads.
Necklace comes in a hand-sewn drawstring gift bag made out of repurposed fabrics or an eco-friendly gift box.
